Consumer Credit Law
You have a right to an accurate credit report.
Fair Credit Reporting Act
Congress gave you the right to an accurate credit report. Each year you're allowed to get a free copy of your credit file from each of the three main credit bureaus, have you checked yours lately? Errors on your credit report can cause denials of credit and lose you money.
Especially after you receive a bankruptcy discharge the credit bureaus are required to show the change. If the credit bureaus refuse to show your debts as discharged they may be held responsible. An accurate credit report can help you get the fresh start that you started by seeking bankruptcy relief.
California Credit Reporting Agencies Act
California has it's own consumer credit protection law that requires creditors to report debts accurately to the credit reporting bureaus. When they report debts inaccurately, they may be held accountable for failing in this duty.
